Here are some of our favourite haunts!
York Maze - lots to do and the park invest year after year. This year the kids enjoyed the scary slides! 3 of them - bumpy, wavy and drop off. Theres a bouncy pillow, a fan sand and water area, climbing, a huge inflatable obstacle course, long fun tractor ride, funny water fight areas - hilarious to watch! Kernel Kernel's house of Cornfusion and discover a world of gravity defying rooms, mirror mazes, shrinking corridors and puzzling illusions.!
The staff are great - all very individual and all fantastic with kids. Save £5 plus by booking online - make sure you book a day before.
Stockeld Park is another favourite! I would say best suited to 5-9 year olds. We had a fantastic time on the electric scooters! A long ride for just £5, including training and a mini test. It is very spacious, so even when there are hundreds of visitors it doesn't seem busy and we did not queue for anything. The food wasn't great. We would take a picnic next time. Staff were all fantastic and most helpful.
As well as a maze, slides, and go karts, there is a woodland walk, where you will find many different play areas and mystical creatures - even the trees talk!
There is also a roller skating rink, but we didn't have time to try it out.
Lightwater Valley - a great theme park for an action packed day! Look for discount codes online before your visit. Lots of rides and attractions and we suggest go early in order to pack as much as possible into your trip!
Manchester offers plenty of things to do for children and their grown ups! There are multiple fantastic museums, many with free entry. The Museum of Science and Industry is a must as is Manchester Art Gallery. Or why not go back in time at the Greater Manchester Police Museum. Admission is free, and the era of the theme is Victorian! It is located in the Northern Quarter of the city.
If you children enjoy a train ride, why not take the train into Manchester, then through to Manchester Airport, maybe taking in a tram ride as the connection. Once at Manchester Airport the local pub (The Airport) has an outdoor play area, food, and the best ever view of aeroplanes landing and taking off. Depending on your location of course, this can be a very low-cost but enjoyable day out for kids. The public house has recently been refurbished and looks great!
Jodrell Bank Discovery Centre is a great trip for older kids. Located in Cheshire. Exhibitions are regularly held. Prices are £6.80 for adults, and less for kids. There are 3 pavilions - learning areas, a science bank, and of course the mighty Lovell Telescope. The gardens and grounds are beautiful. Finally a word about the cafe! The food is gorgeous!
Formby Point is a glorious beach if you are on the west coast. Miles of dramatic sand dunes, surrounded by sweeping coastal pinewoods. Picnic benches are available. The rare red squirrel lives here and it is not too difficult to spot them. The views are breathtaking. Enjoy a walk, paddle and picnic at this National Trust site.
Eureka Children's Museum has literally hundreds of interactive, hands-on exhibits designed to inspire children aged 0 to 11 to learn about themselves and the world around them through play and discovery. Outside is a huge sandpit. The museum is next to Halifax train Station if you are visiting by train.

Sensory toys can help children with autism, ADHD develop skills
Raising a special-needs child is hard but rewarding work. Parents and caretakers need all the help they can get to make sure the children are properly cared for and that they’re specific needs are met.
Parents are always on the hunt for something that will help their child develop and progress. If the child is autistic or has ADHD, parents often rely on the assistance of sensory toys.
Sensory toys can be as elaborate as an iPad or comparable tablet computer or as simple as a pipe cleaner. Children with autism are fascinated by the tablets and parents are happy that they’ve been shown to help with learning and communication. Handling a computer can also help children with autism and ADHD hone motor skills and hand/eye coordination.
The toys can help a child with autism improve motor skills as well as social skills. Children can play their way to being more creative and having a feeling of control over their environment. When it comes to autistic children, parents should not choose toys by their ages, but by their level of development.
Before you run out and buy a lot of expensive toys designed specifically for special-needs children, there are common household items that you can try first. Do you have an infant’s teething ring? These make great toys for autistic children and they’re save to chew on, obviously.
Another idea is a simple pipe cleaner. They can be bent and shaped into different things and autistic children who are fascinated by textures will enjoy its fuzziness. A bag of marbles is also a good choice for older children who don’t run the risk of swallowing them.
Remember Silly Putty. This is ideal for children with autism and ADHD who tend to fidget. The children can play with these while out in public without disturbing anyone. Also good for kids who fidget are little toy cars and trains that they can roll around or hold onto to keep their hands busy. Legos or any other brand of building blocks are also ideal for helping children with motor skills and coordination.
If you’ve run out of ideas or want to find quality sensory toys that will stimulate or enhance a specific skill in your child, there are hundreds of specially made items available at stores and online.
This is written from the heart and personal experience. The elderly are not always regarded that way by their offspring until they have an accident or a bout of bad illness. And because they are "seniors" (as I prefer to call them) they do not recover as quickly, and often live alone.
This happened to me. My father had a serious accident on the stairs, which would have killed many people regardless of age. During his stay with us, I learned from his friends that he had had symptoms of illness for the past few weeks, such as confusion. After having 3 doctors visit, we discovered that he had a bad water infection.
Water infections can make a person act really confused. It can affect them so badly and last for months, and some symptoms can be similar to that of having a stroke.
I wanted to share some recommendations:
Try to be in touch with their friends; the people they see the most
Make sure at least one local trusted person has a key
If they act confused, have their urine tested for a water infection
Infections are NOT limited to just one - they may also have a chest infection
Try and talk to them before something happens - so that if you need to start caring for them their is no embarrassment
If you do not feel happy with one doctors findings, get another option, and like in my case, even a third opinion
DO not expect doctors to initiate investigations about the CAUSE, as they may just treat the symptom or injury
I just hope that this may help even one person who has been in my situation. Thanks for reading
Hot tubs and spas come with lots of maintenance and repair. Most of the problems that occur are ones that are common and simple to fix. These problems can very easy to troubleshoot and can be repaired with very little effort. You may have to purchase a few inexpensive spa or hot tub parts, but it should not cost you a lot of money or effort. While some hot tub repairs are easy, some require a professional so it is important to know the difference. Here are some of the most common hot tub and spa repairs and how to fix them. Spa maintenance is an important part of limiting the amount of repairs needed - just like running a car.
Many homeowners face the problem of low-quality water. There are a couple of things that may be causing this problem. You may have a bad filter or a not-so-good chemical balance issue. One way to fix this particular issue to make sure you learn the proper way to add chemicals. Adding too much chemical can cause skin allergies so you want to make sure that you put in the appropriate amount. You could also invest in better filter cartridges for your spa or hot tub. These are two easy ways in which you could improve the quality of your water.
Takes a While to Heat
If your hot tub or spa is taking a long time to heat you definitely have a problem. The first thing you must immediately check is the filter and its performance. If you have a bad filter then it will get clogged with dirt very easily which can also impact how fast your spa or hot tub heats up. All you have to do in this case is to clean your filters or to simply replace them. If you find that this does not solve the overall problem you should call as professional as it may be a more serious issue. Hot tub repairs can sometimes need a qualified electrician.
Spa and hot tub covers tend to crack in the summer. You can protect your cover by putting silicone oil or something similar over it. This will help to protect your spa cover from the sunlight and heat.
These are all very simple issues that are easy to repair. However, not all repairs are of the do-it-yourself variety. If it seems complicated, it probably is. Make sure you call a professional for any technical and advanced repairs of your hot tub or spa. Spa parts can range from generic to branded and not all stockists hold all brands. If you are on a budget, check the prices out of the branded v unbranded.
When you leave home and lock the door, you’re protecting your property. One locks the car doors for the same reason. You are preventing someone from taking things that belong to you. Protecting one’s personal property is second nature to most people. It’s just as important to protect your intellectual property.
In the U.K., anything that you write, make, produce or design is protected by law. Intellectual property rights can be bought and sold, have multiple owners and can apply to people and business.
There are five ways to ensure that your intellectual property is not stolen, copied or published without your permission, or plagiarized. Copyright protection is a given for anything you create by writing, recording, drawing or painting, photographing or filming. It also applies to databases, website content and computer software.
Though it isn’t necessary for copyright protection, it’s good form to mark your work with a copyright symbol, your name and when you created it.
The next method of protecting your intellectual property is applying for trademarks. When you come up with a name for a product or a logo or even a musical piece, you should immediately apply for a trademark. If possible, don’t share your creation with anyone until it is registered.
Let’s say you have invented a new product or machine. For this type of protection, you will need to apply for a patent. Applying for a patent will give you the documented proof you will need if someone infringes on your intellectual property rights.
When it comes to design rights that deal with the shapes of objects, you have automatic protection for what you’ve created. For example, if you create a specialized font of type, it has immediate protection. Design Rights do not apply to new inventions but the way a product looks. This applies to shape, packaging, patterns, colours and decorations. Registering design rights will protect you from design right infringement.
Some of your intellectual property may have be shielded by more than one type of protection. Your invention may require, for example, a trademark for the name and logo. If it has a one-of-a-kind shape, it’s a registered design. You can patent something that you’ve created to enhance the original and copyright will cover your sketches of it. It will give you protection from "passing off"
If you are about to launch a new product it is wise to have an intellectual property audit carried out.
It’s important to remember that ideas are not considered intellectual property. There are millions of people who have millions of ideas. If you write it down, though, your words cannot be used. Creation is key.
Exposure to asbestos can be severe and in some cases even deadly. Asbestos are minerals that have microscopic fibers that are very thin. These fibers are fire, heat, and chemical resistant, it is commonly used in the construction and automotive industries. When these fibers are breathed in they can stay trapped in the lungs for a number of years. The accumulation of these fibers can also cause serious lung diseases such as:
Asbestos can be found in various materials used commonly in the automotive industry as well as home construction. They are most commonly found in coatings, paints, building materials, and ceiling and floor tiles. You won’t find asbestos as often as you used because newer products do not contain asbestos. However, if you have an old home that was constructed a long time ago, the risks for asbestos are much greater than that of a newer home. In the second world war, gas masks actually contained asbestos. It is used in so many places! In fact it is reported that 75% of schools in England contain asbestos; it tends to be those built after the 60's and before 2000.
Symptoms of Asbestos Exposure
There are certain symptoms that you should look out for when it comes to asbestos exposure and they include:
The good news is, you can prevent from ever experiencing exposure to asbestos. Asbestos surveys are an excellent safety precaution to take if you have asbestos concerns. An asbestos survey is a legal requirement that is set into place by the Control of Asbestos Regulations of 2012. It provides you with accurate information regarding your specific location and the types of asbestos materials that may have been used on your property. Asbestos demolition surveys are required when you plan on upgrading, refurbishing or demolishing your current home. Regardless of if your home is old or new, it is always helpful to have these surveys performed.
Asbestos is extremely dangerous and you should take every single precaution available to keep it out of your home and away from your family. Making sure that asbestos surveys are performed is a great way to make sure you and your family are safe from the dangers of asbestos.
